AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND — 11 NOVEMBER 2020

14,000 runners hit the streets of Auckland in shades of green on the 1st of November for a chance to win avocado goodies as part of NZ Avocado’s partnership with ASB Auckland Marathon.

The 2020 ASB Auckland Marathon marked the first year NZ Avocado had supported the event as the naming rights sponsor for the 5km race, and the first time athletes could enjoy avocado on toast at the finish line. On the day, ver 2000 pieces of avocado on toast, with many runners queueing to enjoy delicious and nutritious NZ avocado goodness as a post run snack.

The event, which attracted over 35,000 runners and supporters, was one of a kind because it was one of the only running events able to happen throughout the world right now. New Zealand currently has an extremely low number of cases of Covid-19 therefore New Zealanders and organisers were pleased that this sporting event could go ahead.

Healthy lifestyles, as well as staying physically active, has become so important in keeping up our mental health and well-being. Running was one accessible activity that New Zealanders could still enjoy at every stage of lockdown.

NZ Avocado CEO Jen Scoular says, “We want to inspire healthy lives and the ASB Auckland marathon seemed like a perfect fit for that. Avocados contain over 19 nutrients including vitamin C and they are a good source of vitamin B6 and folate, all of which contribute to normal immune system function to keep runners well during training.“ Says Scoular.

“The event has been fantastic. It was great to see families and friends get out there together to share an iconic New Zealand experience and enjoy the benefits of their fitness journey followed by some deliciously healthy avocado toast at the finish line.” Says Scoular.
