NZ Avocado is involved in research projects to better understand avocado production in New Zealand and support growers to sustainably produce high yields of quality fruit.
Despite increasing industry yields over the last four years, many orchards are challenged with low and often irregular production. Despite having best practice guidelines in the grower manual there is not yet a “recipe” for growing avocados in New Zealand. Research is focused on understanding factors that limit production and developing practices and strategies growers can use to improve yields and production consistency.
Past and current research outcomes are communicated through field days, Avoscene articles, videos and information on the industry website. These resources are intended to support the grower to improve their orchard performance.
