Industry Governance

New Zealand Avocado Growers Association (NZAGA) is referred to as NZ Avocado.

One Board governs the activities the entity- see the Board member profiles here

Governance includes:

  • Setting and reviewing industry policies and objectives.
  • The development (and periodic review) of the vision and the strategy to deliver on the objectives.
  • Selecting, appointing, supporting and reviewing the performance of the CEO.
  • Ensuring the financial stability and the availability of adequate resources.
  • Approving annual business plans and budgets.
  • Accounting to stakeholders for the organisations performance.

NZ Avocado Industry Constitution & Structure

In 2025, the New Zealand Avocado Growers’ Association (NZAGA) is undertook an important consultation on two key matters:

  1. Updating the NZAGA Constitution to comply with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.
  2. Restructuring the industry model, including the winding up of NZ Avocado Industry Ltd (NZAIL) to create a more streamlined, grower-centric structure.

These changes are critical to ensure our industry is well-governed, legally compliant and fit for the future.

The proposed Constitution was drafted to reflect new legal requirements while also providing a practical, user-friendly guide to how our industry operates. This consultation is also your opportunity to help shape how the industry is structured going forward.

Why this matters

  • The Incorporated Societies Act 2022 mandates re-registration by April 2026, requiring significant constitutional updates.
  • A single-entity model reduces compliance burden and improves grower representation.
