NZAGA roadshows – Wednesday 15 February, Katikati
15/02/2023 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
FreeThroughout February 2023, NZ Avocado are hosting a series of grower roadshows in Northland and the Bay of Plenty as part of the consultation process for potential changes proposed to the NZAGA rules. This is a chance for growers to give feedback and discuss the proposed changes with the Executive in preparation for the Special General Meeting (SGM) to be held 27 April 2023.
At the roadshows, we’ll cover three important topics:
- The NZAGA rules: the Executive seeks to modernise the rules and bring them into line with the 2022 Incorporated Society’s Act.
- The role of NZAGA as your member organisation
- The 27 April 2023 Special General Meeting to agree the commodity levy rates for the 2023-24 season
NZAGA rules have been in a place for a long time and are no longer fit for purpose. Our industry has changed over time and it’s important the rules are updated, relevant and align with the new requirements from the updated Incorporated Societies Act. For us to modernise NZAGA rules, we need you as the members to decide what you want from your organisation. This may include redefining the member objectives of the organisation, defining what a grower is, and how that grower votes. There will be consultation on a number of rules including whether voting should be based on one or two years’ production and how remits are dealt with at AGM’s. It’s anticipated these new rules will be approved at the 2023 AGM.
Currently NZAGA collects a compulsory levy on the sale of local market and export avocados to fund industry activities. This levy is collected under the auspices of the Commodity Levies Act 1990. The Commodity Levy funds the following activity:
- market development and access
- research, development, and agricultural extension
- promotion of avocados and the avocado industry
- quality assurance
- readiness and response to biosecurity threats
- industry communications
- day-to-day administration of NZAGA
We encourage you to attend roadshows. As your elected representative’s we want to get this right, for you. It is your organisation.
