Bay of Plenty soil moisture workshop

Free

NZ Avocado invites you to join us at a soil moisture management workshop in Katikati at Chris and Jennifer Smallwood’s orchard on Friday 4 December 2020 from 2.00pm – 4.00pm at the 78A Lockington Road, Katikati.

The work shop will cover aspects of soil moisture management including:

  • How to understand your soil texture and profile in your orchard and what this means for soil moisture management
  • How to work out how many mm of irrigation your sprinkler heads should be delivering and how to check your system
  • Different soil moisture monitoring technology and the pros and cons
  • Latest understanding of how much water avocado trees need. What influences this and how can you use this understanding to improve your soil moisture management.

Chris and Jennifer have an interesting story of how through greater monitoring and adjustments to their irrigation and frost protection system, they have managed to reduce their water use by approximately 60%. They believe the capital expense they have made optimising the system has been minimal, compared to the benefits they are seeing on their orchard.

This workshop is now fully booked. If you are interested in attending this workshop, please email Melissa.conrad@nzavocado.co.nz and we will keep in touch about further dates.
