Industry Governance

NZAGA and NZ Avocado Industry Ltd are referred to jointly as NZ Avocado. The intercompany policy delegates accountabilities between the two entities.

One Board governs the activities of the two entities, as described above. See the Board member profiles here

Governance includes:

  • Setting and reviewing industry policies and objectives.
  • The development (and periodic review) of the vision and the strategy to deliver on the objectives.
  • Selecting, appointing, supporting and reviewing the performance of the CEO.
  • Ensuring the financial stability and the availability of adequate resources.
  • Approving annual business plans and budgets.
  • Accounting to stakeholders for the organisations performance.

Have your say: NZ Avocado Industry Constitution & Structure Consultation now open

The New Zealand Avocado Growers’ Association (NZAGA) is undertaking an important consultation on two key matters:

  1. Updating the NZAGA Constitution to comply with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.
  2. Restructuring the industry model, including the potential winding up of NZ Avocado Industry Ltd (NZAIL) to create a more streamlined, grower-centric structure.

These changes are critical to ensure our industry is well-governed, legally compliant and fit for the future.

Grower and exporter input is essential. The proposed Constitution has been drafted to reflect new legal requirements while also providing a practical, user-friendly guide to how our industry operates. This consultation is also your opportunity to help shape how the industry is structured going forward.

Why this matters

  • The Incorporated Societies Act 2022 mandates re-registration by April 2026, requiring significant constitutional updates.
  • A single-entity model would reduce compliance burden and improve grower representation.
  • Your feedback will help ensure these changes are practical, inclusive and future-focused.
