Te Puke pruning and canopy management workshop

Free

Date: Thursday 27th May

Time: 1.00pm – 3.00pm

Venue: NZ Avocado research block, Baileys orchard, 764 Rangiuru Rd, Rangiuru, Te Puke

NZ Avocado invites you to join us at a Pruning and canopy management workshop in Te Puke at NZ Avocado’s Research block on Ron and Shirley Bailey’s orchard.

The work shop will cover aspects of canopy management including:

  • Key considerations to inform how to prune your trees.
  • Common principles of pruning strategies of high performing orchards.
  • Several trees will be pruned on the day with a walk through of decision making.
  • Quick introduction to Future Orchard Production System trial growing avocados on trellis and potential benefits.

The research block at the Baileys orchard holds a number of different cultivars that provide good example trees to prune. Also within the block, is a newly established trial looking at more two-dimensional canopy structure supported by trellis that could provide a new canopy management system if the hypothesised improved light capture and canopy management system proves successful.

This event is now at capacity and registrations have been closed.
