Practical tips to get the most out of your irrigation: Te Puke, 2 December 2022

NZ Avocado and Trevelyan’s invites you to join us for a workshop on 2 Dec 2022 from 1.00pm – 3.00pm at Laura Schultz orchard, 630 Rangiuru Rd, Te Puke.

Irrigation and soil moisture management is playing an increasing role in orchard management and has a big influence on your orchard performance. Come, see, hear and participate in some practical activities to understand how to get the most out of your irrigation system and check it’s working effectively. Laura will share her experience and details of their own system. You will come away from the day with a better understanding of soil moisture management and how to check if your irrigation system is working effectively. Attendance numbers will be capped at 40 attendees to ensure people get the most out of the day but additional events may be put on if there is a lot of interest.

Workshop activities will include

  • Description of Laura’s irrigation and soil moisture monitoring system and how they find it performs.
  • Check if the irrigation is performing to expectations (Bring a raincoat).
  • How to calculate your sprinkler delivery in mm of rain equivalent so rainfall and irrigation can be considered together easily.

Assessing soil (bring a spade) and how this, combined with an understanding of your orchard and trees, can inform what sort of system setup will work best.
