Field day: Bay of Plenty – Te Puke, 8 September 2022

NZ Avocado invites you to join us for a field day on Thursday 8 September 2022 from 1.00pm – 3.00pm at Laura Schultz’s orchard, 630 Rangiuru Rd, Te Puke.

Laura is the 2022 Bay of Plenty Young Fruit Grower of the year winner and is both a grower and Trevelyan’s grower representative. Phil Elmer from Plant and Food Research will provide an update of year 3 results from the Avovantage project looking at on-orchard management of post-harvest rots. The field day will include an orchard walk where growers can ask questions and discuss technical information relevant to this time of year.

Field day topics will include

• The financial benefit of crop load management to improve consistency of production and fruit size.
• A practical demonstration of flower pruning.
• Update of year 3 results from the Avovantage fruit quality project
• Influence of soil moisture on fruit size with importance of early fruit development.
• Attending growers will be encouraged to share their own experiences of crop load management and beneficial spring orchard management practices.
